Self-service for the client's employees is the service desk's best cost cut
A large share of the tickets in an MSP's queue should never have become tickets: lookups, small changes, requests with a known shape. A dedicated surface for the client's employees — web and native iOS app — stops them before they reach the queue.
Look at the contents of one client's ticket queue in a random week. There sits "who is X's manager," "can my title be updated," "I need access to Y" — enquiries that require no troubleshooting, just a lookup or a guided change. Each one costs registration, categorisation, pickup and reply. Not because they are hard, but because the only route to the information runs through you.
The tooling market has largely ignored this link in the chain. Among the vendors we have compared ourselves against globally, several have mobile apps — but they are built for IT technicians, so they can process tickets on the move. An app for the client's ordinary employee, we have not found at any of them.
Entra Logic has a dedicated employee surface: a self-service web app and a true native iOS app. There, the client's employees can do three things themselves.
Look things up. Who is this, which department, who is the manager — directory lookups against the synchronised copy, without asking anyone, and with no ticket afterwards because there never was one.
Update their own. Profile fields the employee ought to own are changed directly or through a guided request, depending on what the client's per-tenant configuration allows.
Ask for more. If the employee needs an access or a change that requires approval, the request is sent from the app — and here is the technical point: the request is structured from the moment it is submitted, because the app knows what type of request it is, who the sender is and which tenant it belongs to. What reaches the approver is a fully formed order, not free text for first line to interpret, categorise and complete.
That last part is the difference between self-service and self-registration of tickets. A "contact IT" button merely relocates the queue. A structured order removes the entire interpretation step: what can go straight through goes straight through; what requires approval goes to the right approver in the client's flow — and is then executed automatically, with the same audit trail as every other change.
For the MSP, the business case has two sides. The cost side: every enquiry resolved in the employee surface is a ticket that never loaded first line. The revenue side is less obvious but larger: an employee surface built around the client's everyday work is a service you can sell, not just an efficiency you absorb. It is visible to every employee at the client every week — unlike most good operations work, which by definition is invisible when it succeeds.
The surface is available in Norwegian, Swedish, Danish, Finnish and English, with wording configurable per tenant. For Nordic end users that is not a detail — it is the difference between a surface they use and one they route around.
